Together with another

Interactive Installation, 2016

Together with Another creates the experience of people meeting and passing through each other in different time and space. The project also aims to observe how would people feel and change their relationship consciously under those uncertainties of embodiment.

Overview:

Toolkits: Processing, Kinect, MadMapper

Role: coding, ideation

Inspiration

"When you’re a child you learn there are three dimensions

Height, width and depth

Like a shoebox

Then later you hear

there’s a fourth dimension

Time

Then some say there can be five, six, seven…"

     ----"Another One" from movie "Paterson"

Space Architecture

Using different sizes of see-through silk screen frames to divide a physical dark space into two parts.

With two Kinects placed at both sides of the frames, the installation captures the depth data of user.

The depth data is programmed and designed through Processing in one sketch, which would be mapped and projected on those frames.

User test

People at one side would be painted as a blueish white profile, while the one at the other side would be painted black.

When people move around at both sides, the white and black profiles appear and disappear, get larger or smaller, become more distinct or less precise, overlap on each other or erase each other on different frames.
